2026 VOLKSWAGEN ATLAS
Filed Sep 1, 2026
The rear power liftgate opened on its own while the vehicle was being driven at speed on a public road, with no input from the driver or passenger. Luggage was ejected from the cargo area onto the roadway and could not be recovered. A passenger witnessed the incident. There were no warning lamps, messages, or prior symptoms before the failure. A police report was filed the following day (Schaumburg, IL Police Department report SCP26-A00243). The vehicle was inspected by an authorized Volkswagen…

The vehicle will randomly stall while driving. Mostly as you push the accelerator, it will act as though a fuel filter is clogged causing it to stall. If the vehicle manages to continue forward without stalling, it lunges forward unexpectedly and can be a significant distance. I took my vehicle in over a year ago for this issue, was told it was a software update issue. Vehicle was 4 years old and still under the VW remote access program. I paid almost $1,000 to get this software issue…

My air bag light came on and said I have code b121400. It indicates that the passenger occupant seat sensor is not communicating/working. I see this issue was identified as a recall for similar vehicles but did not include my car. NHTSA ID: 22v815000

The hood release cable on my 2021 Volkswagen broke, making it impossible to open the hood using the interior release handle. This type of part should not fail on a relatively new vehicle under normal use. Based on my research, many other Volkswagen owners have reported similar hood release cable failures online, which suggests this may be a widespread issue rather than an isolated failure. This is a safety concern because a broken hood release cable prevents access to the engine compartment…
2023 VOLKSWAGEN ATLAS

The steering assist became completely unavailable while the vehicle otherwise remained operational; the battery checked out fine; no failed component or root cause was identified; and steering was restored only through electronic re-adaptation of Address 44.
2023 VOLKSWAGEN ATLAS

Vehicle has issues with sputtering and stalling out when at idle and while reversing after warming up. The first time that the vehicle actually stalled while reversing, it had to be put into park and restarted. I took it to the dealership and they replaced the in tank fuel pump. When I got the car back it was still acting a little strange but I thought it was just the computer relearning process. Shortly afterward (approx 100-150 miles later) it started struggling at idle again. Yesterday the…

The hood release cable on my 2021 Volkswagen Atlas failed during normal use, making it impossible to open the hood or access the engine compartment. I took the vehicle to an authorized Volkswagen dealership, where the cable was replaced. The Volkswagen service advisor told me this is a common issue on 2021–2023 Atlas models. Volkswagen of America subsequently denied my request for reimbursement based on the vehicle’s age and mileage. I am reporting this because failure of the hood release…

The infotainment head unit crashes and reboots intermittently, sometimes within minutes of starting the vehicle. When it crashes while the vehicle is in reverse, the rearview camera image freezes on screen or goes completely black. The vehicle is available for inspection on request. This is a safety risk because the camera provides no usable image at the moment it is needed. A frozen image is worse than a black one, since it shows a stale view of the area behind the vehicle that looks normal.…
