While driving at low speed performing a turn in a residential area, the vehicle suddenly displayed a “Steering Assist Fault” warning message and the steering wheel became completely locked with essentially no movement possible. The throttle body on the 2006 Mercury Montego SHOULD HAVE been recalled just like the 2007 Mercury Montego that I owned previously was recalled. It has the SAME EXACT problem! My dealer says my subframe needs to be replaced, and controll arm at a cost of 3600 dollars, I don't understand why my subframe needs to be replaced, I've owned cars for as long as 20 yrs and never had that problem. This sounds like a manufacturers problem.
