PTU failed. Service 4 WD Light is on. Jeep has a recall but my VIN isn't included. It is going to cost over $3000 to get it fixed.

Service four-wheel-drive light came on. Took Vehicle to the Jeep dealer for inspection and paid $220.94 diagnostic fee. Jeep dealer stated that the power transfer unit had an internal failure code C1487–97. Dealership quoted a repair cost of $2836.75. Dealership stated the part was on backorder and would not be available for weeks or months or longer. The component that failed/malfunctioned was the module that activates the EPB. It is available for inspection if requested. My safety was put at risk because the parking brake would engage every time the vehicle shut off leaving me stranded and could put other drivers at risk if my vehicle was stranded on the roadway. Front transfercase blew on the highway. It just happened randomly with no warning.we were stuck with barely amy signal at 2:30am on the side of the highway in the dark. 6 MONTHS AGO I WAS DRIVING MY JEEP HOME AND MY SERVICE 4 WHEEL DRIVE LIGHT CAME ON. THE JEEP WAS RUNNING ROUGH BUT MADE IT HOME.
