Genesis GV80

The vehicle's horn has failed 3 times and has been replaced twice. We have opened an incident with Genesis of America to escalate this concern.

The contact owns a 2022 Genesis GV80. The contact stated that while stopped at a traffic light, the vehicle shut off unexpectedly. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was scheduled to be towed to a dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 52,392.

I am writing this complaint concerning the headlight assembly issue that applies to my vehicle. The headlight has a well documented record of suddenly failing. To my knowledge there has never been an official recall from Genesis to address this issue. The issue definitely causes a safety issue and the repair of this issue is not a straight forward matter. On two separate occasions, my 2021 Genesis GV80 experienced a sudden loss of motive power while driving on Interstate 75 in Atlanta, Georgia, creating an extreme crash hazard. The first incident occurred on August 3, 2026. While traveling at highway speed in heavy traffic, I attempted to change lanes and pressed the accelerator. While slowly backing into a parking space in an underground hotel garage, the rear parking sensors never activated — no audible warning at any point — and the vehicle's left-rear corner struck a concrete wall corner, cracking the taillight and damaging the bumper/quarter panel (~$3,000 repair). Sensors function normally at all other times; this was an intermittent non-activation. Rear dashcam with cabin audio documents the backup with no sensor tones before impact. No injuries.

The headlight assemblies on both the right and left side have water pooling which severely dims nighttime visibility and creates an immediate risk of total headlight failure while driving at highway speeds. The Forward Collision Avoidance safety sensors have begun flashing or malfunctioning due to the excessive moisture.

The vehicle experienced a failure of the High Pressure Fuel Crossover Pipe, a safety defect subject to NHTSA Recall 26V-229 (Manufacturer Campaign 033G). While operating the vehicle over 200 miles from home, a strong odor of raw fuel was detected inside and outside the vehicle. The vehicle was immediately parked at an authorized Genesis dealership due to the risk of pressurized fuel leaking onto hot engine components and igniting an engine compartment fire. The evaporator core leaks 1234yf in the cabin rendering the air conditioning useless. During times of higher humidity, the air conditioner is needed for defogging the windows of the vehicle. The inability to do so severely limits visibility.
