While driving our 2018 Ford Edge we noticed a sudden loss of power, hesitation, white smoke during operation and a loss of coolant. Vehicle idles poorly and sometimes dies when stopped at stop lights.

My suv has been stuttering/hesitating. Especially going uphills. After replacing quite a few things, we took it to ford for a diagnostic test. They report that the torque converter has gone bad. It started Aug 28 2026. Ford diagnosed it yesterday Oct 19. Waiting on fords printed report.

The 2018 Edge has been having Engine misfires for at least 3 months. Edge has had rough starts in the AMs - Check engine has gone on and off. Two main concerns is that the issue with the 2.0 Eco boost is the coolant intrusion into cylinders causing a whole engine replacement. The transmission jerks VERY strongly when shifting gears between 5mph - 60mpg. It is so pronounced that it effects my foot on the pedals and could cause drivers to slam on the accelerator or brake. The vehicle has 90k miles on it and this issue has been happening for 10k miles or so. This is a KNOWN issue with the 8F35 transmission and needs to be a recall instead of a TSB that costs drivers $5k.

Car started running running roughly with white smoke coming out the exhaust. As since researched, it’s a known issue, the coolant intrusion into the cylinder. Repair shop says it needs a new engine. I called Ford to check to see if they could offer any assistance but they couldn’t, the car is just out of warranty (2019 with 62,000 miles). They opened a case #CXH-09690702 and advised to keep all repair receipts in case Ford should ever do a recall in the future.
