The lifter rod associated with the DoD/AFM system failed, causing catastrophic failure in the engine. This isn't an age issue, this isn't a part that wore out and failed. Extensive embrittlement, cracking, and partial collapse of the plastic dash into the space underneath the dash. This cracking extends to to the boundry for the passenger side airbag cover potentially creating a dangerous situation(flying debris) during airbag deployment.

The dashboard in 2007-2014 gm trucks and subs break apart. These can shatter when in an accident. There is insufficient bracing and supports to keep the dashboards from cracking and coming apart in pieces. Only remedy is to replace the dashboard or get an aftermarket cap that may or may not hold during an accident. Especially when the airbags is deployed.
