In March of 2026 I decided to make use of the vehicles lane keeping assistant and set the lane keeping assistant to maximum safety settings. Within 2 months I noticed the car began to slip l/shudder at the front end while taking highway exit ramps. After this happened a few times I pulled over and checked the front tires because I thought maybe I drove through asphalt oil or something that made the tires slick. I received a recall notice for my vehicle that states that the connection between the driveshaft and rear differential may, over time, be subject to excessive wear. This could lead to a loss of power to the rear wheels, WHICH INCREASES THE RISK OF A CRASH, OR A ROLLAWAY IF THE VEHIOCLE IS NOT SECURED WITH A PARKING BRAKE. This is a serious safety issue, but the manufacturer failed to state when the repair is to be made or how to safely drive the vehicle with the stated defect.

In August 2026, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced an active safety recall under campaign number 26V525000 for certain 2021–2023 BMW vehicles experiencing severe driveshaft-to-rear-differential connection failures that result in an immediate loss of motive power and vehicle rollaway risks. On XXX, while stopped at a traffic light, I accelerated normally in my 2022 BMW 540i. After moving only a few feet, I heard a loud metallic clank from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle immediately lost all ability to propel itself. It would still shift between gears, but pressing the accelerator would not move the vehicle. Rear differential failed, internal gears compromised. Noticed problem when going into gear. Vehicle no longer is able to go in gear and will shut off engine. No indication lights prior to failure. Vehicle showed drivetrain error as soon as it had failed. Vehicle was in main road when failure occurred, placing vehicle at risk. Starter engine failure. Car failed to start multiple times. Major safety hazard that can cause a short circuit, melt wiring harnesses, and spark an engine bay fire posing an immediate threat to life. Problem was inspected and confirmed by a dealer. Multiple waring lamps and messages appeared. Dealer report stated: STARTER MOTOR FAULTY. ENGINE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CONCERN: C/S: REPEAT START ATTEMPT INTERMITTEN WARNING LIGHTS. Please issue recall for the safety of all drivers.

My vehicle offers rear traffic alert system, but it is not working properly. It's a safety issue that I almost caused several accidents because of it. The vehicle is available for inspection. Safety to me and others are at risk because the feature is not working (rear traffic alert system). I have an appointment on May 28, 2026 to have the BMW dealership look into it. There were no warning lamps or messages.
