Vehicle keeps saying that passenger restraint system malfunction and turns off air bags even when there is a passenger . A lot of people from BMW forums are reporting same issue

I own a 2023 BMW 530i affected by NHTSA recall campaign 26V-438 (BMW Engine Starter recall), issued July 8, 2026. Seatbelt alarm goes off on passengers seat and no one is seated in the seat. Received a notification from BMW that the warranty was extended to cover this problem with this model but the BMW dealership says my VIN number is not covered. They confirmed that it did need replacing but They quoted me a price of more than $2500 to fix it and claimed nothing could be done about it unless it’s paid out of pocket.

A recall has been issued for our car over 5 months ago and dealer is saying they have no idea when the part will be in when i asked for a loaner car they said no,,the recall can cause the car to start a fire. After returning to my vehicle, I received an alert that the chassis stabilization system had a fault. The car was free, rolling and had no parking brake while it was on an incline. There was zero ability to turn the steering wheel. I consider this a life-threatening safety issue.

The recall 25V-636 remains unresolved after more than 6 month passed since the manufacturer issued the campaign regarding the engine starter. I would like to see the NHTSA to put the manufacturer on notice that this is unacceptable. We cannot park the vehicle outside of structures permanently as this devalues the vehicle and creates a loss of use.
