The contact owns a 2018 Porsche 718 Cayman. The contact stated that while the spouse was driving the vehicle at 70 MPH, abnormal handling occurred, followed immediately by a loud knocking noise. The driver pulled the vehicle to the side of the road and discovered the rear left axle had fractured, detached, and was hanging on the ground. The contact stated the failure was known within the Porsche community. Following the failure, a possible rear gear fault driving permitted message was displayed…

Fire

The motor experienced a catastrophic failure causing the rod to blow through the top of the engine, cutting a fuel line and causing a fire. It was later determined and passed to me via unofficial sources that this was due to a manufacturing defect where the incorrect camshaft bearings were used on specific pistons. Via online and first account conversations, it seems this has happened at least 12 other times. Those vehicles which can be found online were complete losses. Via second hand…

The passenger side (right rear) inside CV joint grease boot clamp failed and leaked grease. I discovered it while switching out Winter to Summer tires. I have included pictures. In researching the defect I found that it is a common occurrence with the Porsche 718 Cayman and occurs with low mileage. I believe the clamp was defective or not installed correctly during the assembly process. If I didn’t catch the leak it could have resulted in a drive axle failure and breakdown on the road…

I was driving on the highway when the oil pressure warning light came on, and then the engine completely failed. I was unable to restart the car while still coasting and was fortunately able to roll off the highway on to an exit ramp. In mid-day traffic, this could have been very dangerous. The car went straight to the dealership via flatbed - less than a year old, ~5300 miles - and it was determined the engine had seized. No cause was provided beyond 'oil exhaustion', and that there was no…

2023 PORSCHE 718 CAYMAN

The dealer reported a misfire. Upon detailed investigation and a bore scope, the inside cylinder lining had disintegrated and metal shavings were in engine oil. The motor needed to be replaced. This took 30 days to receive new motor. Upon installation, the gear shifting linkage failed, necessitating removal and replacement of these parts. The issues are ongoing at this time and I still have not had the car returned to me. It is still being repaired nearing 45 days in the repair facility.

I received delivery of my vehicle this morning and put about 20 miles on it when I received an engine fault error and my vehicle check engine light came on while accelerating from a stop to about 15 mph before the issue occurred. I lost responsiveness and my engine was in “limp mode”. This occurred in traffic and I had to safely exit the roadway before calling roadside assistance to get it towed to the dealer. ODB error codes from a shop include: 2838-P0087 Fuel rail system pressure too low…
